Are You Tired of Neck Pain/Stiffness?

Do you sit for more than 1-2 hours at a time? Does your neck feel sore, stiff, or achy towards the end of the day? Do you notice an increase in symptoms with increased stress?

Neck stiffness limits mobility and can cause pain. Neck stiffness can be caused by an injury, repetitive stress, muscle imbalance or improper, prolonged loading due to poor posture and ergonomics. Neck stiffness puts added stress on the muscles, joints, and nerves of the head, neck and shoulder.

Physical therapy is one of the most common treatments of neck pain and stiffness. Most neck stiffness is acquired through repetitive movements or faulty postures. Physical therapists are movement specialists who can reduce neck pain and improve neck strength and functioning through stretches and exercises. Often, shoulder stiffness, mid-back and core weakness can contribute to persistent or lingering neck stiffness.

If you are experiencing neck stiffness, some short-term helps include: shoulder rolls, shoulder blade squeezes, gentle head rotation side to side, upper/mid back movement, shoulder stretches, and diaphragm breathing/other stress relief techniques..

Physical therapist use: massage, dry needling, mobilizations, and manipulations to restore motion and then provide corrective exercises and stretches to improve posture, muscle balance and strength in order to prevent reoccurrence of pain, strain and stiffness.

With improved mobility, strength and posture, you will have decreased strain and inflammation at the joints and muscles. Your body will be more functional and resilient; better able to handle the daily stressors that you will encounter.

Schedule an appointment with Refuge Physiotherapy so we can help you move and feel better.
