Want to be Unstoppable on the Basketball Court?

We are so passionate about keeping our athletes healthy and preventing injury here at Refuge Physiotherapy. Our love for basketball runs deep, as Dr. Maggie played collegiately at Ole Miss. She loves working with all athletes, but especially her basketball players!

Let’s talk basketball injuries first. Here are a few fun facts:

  • Ankle injuries followed by knee injuries are the most common to happen (doesn’t mean others don’t, aka jammed fingers).

  • Females are more prone to injury than males.

  • Injuries are more likely to occur during practice, but if they do happen during a game, they usually happen in the second half.

  • Single leg strength and control and power are crucial for staying healthy and preventing injury.

We have a series of videos to show you about leg strength and how to comfortably be able to stay low and in position on the defensive end. The stronger you get with staying in and holding these positions, the quicker and smoother you will be able to move. Here are some defensive strengthening drills we teach.

Power and agility are also very important. We like to focus on a lot of double and single leg jumping. How you push off is important to look at, but how you absorb the force and load through your joints is crucial. Here are some videos on power and agility.

We hope you learned some things you can do to help with a current injury, prevent injury, and/or just be a better athlete overall!

Schedule with us if you would like to have an assessment to see areas of improvement you can focus on!
